How to Calculate Optimal Roller Pitch and Motor Power for Heavy Board Conveyors

Published on 2026-09-08 by Shunxin Automation Engineering Team

The Fundamental Sizing Rule: The “Rule of Three”

When conveying solid wood, particle board, or MDF sheets on roller tables, the smallest workpiece must rest on at least three rollers simultaneously at all times:

$$\text{Maximum Roller Pitch } (P) = \frac{\text{Minimum Board Length } (L_{\min})}{3}$$

For example, if your shortest drawer side is 240mm, your roller pitch must not exceed $240 / 3 = 80\text{ mm}$.
